| Marc Chagall 1887-1985 | Le vetrate Posted: 22 Aug 2011 08:44 AM PDT  Famose in tutto il mondo, le magnifiche fiabesche vetrate policrome, della misura di metri 4 per 2,8 circa, sono state realizzate dal grande artista in due anni di lavoro., tra il 1960 e il 1961. La prima vetrata fu montata nel 1967, mentre le ultime vennero installate nel 1985, lo stesso anno in cui Chagall morì all'età di 98 anni. Si trovano nella sinagoga del centro medico universitario Hadassah di Gerusalemme e nell'atrio aperto al pubblico del Palazzo delle Nazioni Unite ONU a New York, NY, Stati Uniti d'America.
Ogni vetrata, dominata da un colore diverso, è un microcosmo del caratteristico e fantastico mondo di Chagall, dove, tra realtà e immaginazione, egli rappresenta il suo profondo senso di identificazione con la storia e la cultura del popolo ebraico e, ispirato dalle sacre scritture, ritrae, tra simboli e fantasiose figure di fiori e animali, i dodici figli di Giacobbe e le dodici tribù di Israele. Lo speciale processo di applicazione del colore utilizzato dall'artista, ha permesso l'utilizzo di tre colori differenti in ogni lastra senza richiedere la separazione in piombo.

His life and work are legendary in the history of 19th- and 20th-century art. In the popular view, van Gogh has become the prototype of the misunderstood, tormented artist, who sold only one work in his lifetime - but whose Irises achieved a record auction sale price of £49 million. Romantic clichés suggest that van Gogh paid with insanity for his genius, which was understood only by his supportive brother Theo (1857-91). Van Gogh was active as an artist for only ten years, during which time he produced some 1000 watercolours, drawings and sketches and about 1250 paintings ranging from a dark, Realist style to an intense, expressionistic one. Almost more than on his oeuvre, his fame has been based on the extensive, diary-like correspondence he maintained, in particular with his brother.
